Managing Director of R&C Interior Design and Decoration Company

Using charity to help the elderly and the weak and build a better Singapore

After years of hard work, Huang Fengzhu has achieved some success in her career, but her heart is always full of care and love, and she is enthusiastic about local public welfare. Since she was young and had a low income, she has been aware of donating money to charities and temples, and contributing her own little efforts to the elderly in need. Now that she has a successful career, she donates 1% of her compan’s total income to charitable organizations every year.
In order to let more Singaporeans have great love and participate in charity activities, Huang Fengzhu also actively introduces public welfare activities to people around her to help poor compatriots in society, and hopes that future generations can benefit from it. Just like her beautiful and confident appearance, her heart is even more brilliant.

Through the introduction of her friends, Huang Fengzhu learned about Sian Chay Medical Institution and was full of gratitude for the long-standing Sian Chay. In particular, she was very impressed by the fact that Sian Chay has been maintaining its operations through charitable donations for nearly a hundred years, and has long been committed to helping the elderly and the poor in need.

With the rapid growth of the elderly population in our country, some elderly poor people are unable to afford the high medical expenses and medical insurance. Huang Fengzhu believes that public welfare organizations such as nursing homes and Sian Chay Medical Institution are particularly in need of financial assistance.

“Sian Chay Medical Institution plays a very important role in our society. It not only helps the elderly, the poor and those in need, but also gives them a healthy physique. It also opens up channels for people from all walks of life to provide help for low-income people. Low-income people of all races will benefit from it, which promotes the harmonious development of Singapore’s multi-ethnic society. By participating in charity activities, on the one hand, it can enhance the elegance and friendliness of Singaporeans and improve the quality of the nation; on the other hand, it also gives Singaporeans the opportunity to help each other.

As a successful entrepreneur, Huang Fengzhu said that companies should also actively cultivate their own sense of social responsibility. During the interview, candidates should be made aware of the importance of the company to charity. For example, the company reserves one day a month for employees to help with cleaning work at charity organizations; or on public holidays, employees and public welfare organizations jointly organize the elderly and people in need to visit local attractions or places.

“Participating in charity activities in the image of a company or enterprise can make employees realize the importance of helping each other. In the process of investing in public welfare, they can ignore their status and position, and then cultivate the humanistic care spirit of employees and inspire their loving care for others. Giving back to society by helping the weak is also a way to thank society. “

On the issue of how to guide young people to participate in charity activities, Huang Fengzhu mentioned that "the efforts of the older generation of Singaporeans have brought about the prosperity of Singapore’s economy and social stability today, and today’s young people are spared from the suffering experienced by the older generation. The government needs to play a guiding role, and the Ministry of Education should also formulate relevant policies to allow children to visit and understand the elderly and vulnerable groups in need of help from an early age, so that the younger generation can establish tolerance and compassion from an early age, and care for compatriots who are poorer than themselves. In this way, more and more young people will contribute their own strength to public welfare”.

Huang Fengzhu said that her life has also changed because of her participation in public welfare.”Enterprise operations make profits in order to expand the company;s economic scale and invest in reproduction, so that employees within the company can benefit, and the role is limited. The operation and management of charity activities is mainly based on raising funds and economic assistance from other organizations, which is sustainable. Charity activities can help citizens in need throughout the society, and the impact and role they produce are unlimited. When you realize that you can contribute to society and help others with your own abilities, it is also an incentive for yourself. This self-identified sense of satisfaction is difficult to exchange for money. When someone you have helped smiles at you from the bottom of their heart, it is a sweet feeling for me. ”

She believes that “aiding and participating in charitable activities should become a part of every Chinese’s life. If everyone in society lends a helping hand, over time, the charity awareness of Chinese people will definitely improve and increase, and Singapore will also change as a result. It has to be even better.”

Of course, with gratitude, there are also expectations. In order for Sian Chay Medical Institution to continue to develop in the future, Huang Fengzhu hopes that Sian Chay will expand its team of professional doctors, develop more effective Chinese medicines, and upgrade the existing patient data management system to make it more complete. We also hope that the government will have more official charities supporting Sian Chay and that the management committee will be more transparent in the operation of the charity fund. It is hoped that Sian Chay will maintain its current good operating status, continue to play its important social role in supporting the elderly and the
disabled, and work with Singapore to build a more glorious future.
